FIRST WORD

Hello & Welcome

This week we’ve got info in Tips & New Stuff covering the new automatic keywords search rank feature in MBS.

Considering a sale of your business? We’ve got one entrepreneur’s story and tips on how to do it in Sellers’ 411.

And in The World of Amazon we report on Amazon’s acquisition of an ad-serving technology, more signs of Amazon’s aggressive move into the advertising space.

Here’s to an amazing week!

TIPS & NEW STUFF

We now automatically collect search rank volume for your keywords.

Search rank is where each keyword ranks among all keywords tracked by Amazon. Amazon calls this Search Frequency Rank, and it’s the numeric rank of a specific search term’s popularity when compared to all other search terms. Keyword rankings are updated weekly.

We gather this info from Amazon for each of your keywords, which means it’s automatically available for you to use. Sorting and evaluating for keyword popularity are now orders of magnitude easier.

The lower the rank, the more popular that keyword on Amazon. Keywords that fall outside the top million searches are marked 1M+.

Search Rank is now handled automatically, and is yet one more tool from ManageByStats for your keywords arsenal.

If you’re not yet using the MBS Keyword tool, you can try it for free.  Go to Keywords on your ManageByStats menu and click to activate and get started.

Full How-To instructions, including Search Rank, are in the MBS Knowledge Base:

THE WORLD OF AMAZON

Continuing our coverage of Amazon’s steady move into the advertising space, this week it was reported they’re close to buying an ad-serving technology.

Tech company Sizmek’s Ad Server, which helps advertisers place spots around the internet and measure their effectiveness, competes directly with Google’s Marketing Platform, formerly known as DoubleClick. Scooping up ad-serving technology would bolster the pitch Seattle-based Amazon is making to advertisers to persuade them to shift money to its platform.

“Amazon will now have a comprehensive offering to go against Google and Facebook,” said Doug Rozen, chief media officer at advertising agency 360i. “The addition of Sizmek could be the start of a needed shift beyond a duopoly.”

Amazon’s digital advertising business is still small compared with Google’s and Facebook Inc.’s, but it’s growing …

HUMOR

A gorilla goes into a bar and orders a martini. This totally amazes the bartender, but he thinks, “What the heck, I guess I might as well make the drink.” So he mixes the martini.

He then walks back over to the give it to the gorilla, and the animal is holding out a twenty. Well, now the bartender is just at a loss for words. He can’t believe that a gorilla walked into his bar, ordered a martini, and then actually had a twenty-dollar bill to pay for it.

So, in amazement, he takes the twenty and walks to the cash register to make change. While he’s standing in front of the cash register he stops for a second and thinks to himself, “Let me try something and see if the gorilla notices anything.”

So he walks back over to the gorilla and hands him a dollar in change. The gorilla doesn’t say anything, he just sits there sipping the martini. After a few minutes the bartender just can’t take it anymore.

“You know,” he says to the gorilla, “we don’t get many gorillas in here.”

And the gorilla says, “At nineteen dollars a drink I’m not surprised.”
